HARVIN-TIME!
The standings may show Finch Vanilla with a loss to the Blokes in Week 3, but to Percy Harvin, "that don't mean a thang."
Percy Harvin put up a season-leading 51 points as Finch Vanilla crushed the Space Monkeys, 177-95. Their 177 points is a league record. In addition to Harvin, Finch Vanilla got huge points out of Tim Tebow, Brandon LaFell, Shay Hodge and Julio Jones. Can Finch Vanilla win without a big running game? Apparently so.
Controversy has risen over Finch Vanilla's loss to the Blokes in Week 3. Commissioner Barr has been accused of scheduling his Blokes to face Finch Vanilla on Florida's bye week, a game that the Blokes won 102-98. The two teams face each other again in the final week of the season, which could very well determine the West champion.
LEAGUE WELCOMES NEW QBs IN WEEK FIVE
The pool of QBs has increased thanks to an injection of young QBs getting more and more playing time in the SEC in Week 5.
Five new quarterbacks showed up in Week 5, and we could see at least one more before too long. Kodi Burns, Stephen Garcia, Jarrett Lee, Tyson Lee and Tyler Wilson all either started or got significant playing time this weekend. Lee and Lee both started and played every snap for MSU and LSU. Garcia and Jarrett Lee both finished in the top 5 for pts by a QB, with Garcia finishing #2 with 23.8 points despite not starting and not playing in the 4th quarter.
As many as three of these QBs could find a starting spot in the SECFFL. In the West, Burns could supplant Nickson for the Space Monkeys, Garcia could beat out Casey Dick and Jevan Snead as the Blokes' starting QB, and Jarrett Lee may beat out JPW for Saban's Straw Hat. All three QBs could also be finding starting homes in the East, since all three are currently on rosters.
BLOKES 5-0 DESPITE MORENO M.I.A.
The Blokes certainly aren't earning any style points in their quest to remain undefeated. Fortunately for them, the only points that matter are fantasy points.
Led again by a strong performance from Charles Scott, the Blokes were able to easity handle the Rear Admirals, 101-54. The Blokes (5-0) started Casey Dick, who earned only 5.5 points. Meanwhile, the two quarterbacks on their bench combined for 47 points. The Admirals' (1-4) leading point-getter was their kicker, Leigh Tiffin, who had 11 points (as did Montario Hardesty).
RLR GET FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON IN WINSTON BOWL PT 1
Run Lolas Run/PRAY4RAIN earned their first win of the season against Saban's Straw Hat, 114-75. This was a matchup between the Winston brothers. RLR (1-4) got big points out of the Stafford-Green connection, as those two players combined for 43 points.
DEFENDING CHAMPS FALL TO 2-3
The defending National Champions Salsa Kings lost their second straight and third overall to fall to 2-3 on the season. Ineffective play from Jonathan Crompton, Arian Foster and the WR corp caused the Kings to fall short to Purple & Gold, 84-80.
The Kings face the 4-1 Notorious HOGS this week. The good news for the Kings? A 2-3 record is still good enough for a 4-way tie for third place in the East division, so their playoff hopes are far from dashed.
